I have been doing a lot of hiking in Maui's back country lately and have become fascinated with complexity and diversity of the forest. Green is in, and it is starting to become my new favorite color.

Wild fires whipped through the West Maui yesterday. Over 5,000 acres burned and the entire side of the mountain was ablaze. The Maui Fire Department & the Windward Aviation helicopter team did an amazing job. These guys are some of the best pilots in the world. Here are a few action shots from fire.

The oil spill in the Gulf is shaping up to be a tragedy of epic proportions. Between all the interviews, live video feeds, and headline stories, the media has covered the story from every possible angle. Today, however, was the first day that truly emotionaly riveting images from the spill have caught my attention.

I shot the photos yesterday on a last minute trip to Hana. We tried score some photos before the next flat spell and got lucky with a few wedgy waves at a secret beach break. We also shot some lifestyle shots in the jungle on the way home. Check out the interview!
