Flash Bang

I have always found inspiration in the ski and snowboard industry.  Photographers such as Cole Barash, Mattias Fredriksson, and Tim Zimmerman, are a few that I think are absolutely killing it.   I love the way they use strobes to light up action, create drama, and tell a story.

At the end of summer, I set out on a project to create a collection of remote flash images of windsurfing and kiteboarding - inspired directly by the style of the snow industry.  I set up my Profoto B2 kit on rocks, piers, and sand bags. Anything to get the lights as close the action as possible. The environmental conditions are tough: salt spray, sharp lava, rogue waves, and blowing sand are all part of the mix.

The following are a few outtakes from my efforts thus far - I have to keep the best images under wraps for now.  Check out the newest issues of Kiteboarding and Windsport Magazine to see some of the images in print.
